Prologue to Adventure!

Surviving the Mystical and Mythical

Salutations good people of the internet! It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to this humble travel blog. I must warn you however, that what you find here may cause you to stop dead in your tracks, or force your heart to skip a beat from sheer, unbridled terror.

The great nation of Japan is home to many beautiful sights and rich histories. That said, some of those histories exist only in hearsay, hushed whispers, and tales passed on from generation to generation. Spirits, ghosts, monsters, demons: these things we claim as fiction, I can assure you, are quite real. Among the spectral hot-spots of the world, few match Japan's entourage, or its potency for an ethereal encounter.

What you can expect

My blog's primary purpose is to expose internet goers to a wider cast of Japanese mythological creatures and spirits that remain a dominant facet of modern Japanese culture. Though many websites and net sources have covered a large breadth of ancient beasts and traditional yokai, there are a number of  present-day abominations that have received little coverage outside of the occasional Buzzfeed or Ranker article.

Thus being the case, I have made it my task to dutifully search after and catalogue these modern aberrations across the Land of the Rising Sun. At the start of each post, I shall regale you with my personal interactions with a featured specter, followed by the unique details of said spirit, other eyewitness accounts, references in preexisting kaidan, and my final advice and closing remarks on how to best survive any encounters you may endure.

About the Author

As an  accomplished student of Japanese language and culture, I am duly qualified to engage in this entertaining, and likewise academic endeavor. After graduating from a prestigious university on the East Coast (the finer details are unnecessary), I desperately sought a doctoral program to further my studies of the paranormal.

Unfortunately, such avenues are not so broad in America, and with no realistic alternative, I have decided to dedicate my life to research in the field. Indeed, as an aspiring lover of the unseen, there is no greater, nor dangerous calling than the journey upon which I embark. From the comfort of your desks, tablets and the like, it is my honor to invite you all to share in the investigation of the century!

Sincerely yours,
C.V. Hastings, Journeyman Ghost Hunter and Demonologist
